Gas prices near $1.44 in GTA

Heading to the gas pumps continued to be a depressing and wallet-draining experience for many on Wednesday, as fuel prices in many parts of the country marched steadily higher to hover around record levels. And that’s the way it’s going to be for the foreseeable future — unless there’s a big, long-term dropoff in the global price of oil, according to CIBC Economics energy analyst Emanuella Enenajor.

Gas prices soar nationwide

Drivers are feeling gas pains as the price at the pumps is jumping in much of the country.

Pumps in the Toronto area saw prices rise 3.6¢ a litre overnight, with the price of regular gas at $1.21 a litre at most stations in and around the city. The average price in Ontario is about $1.19 per litre.

The cost of gasoline is expected to spike soon as continuing political unrest in the Middle East causes crude oil prices to rise. In New York on Tuesday, crude oil futures hit a two-year high of US$98.48 a barrel for the most actively traded oil contract.

Gas price hike recommended for New Brunswick

A consultant hired by the New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board has recommended that gasoline retailers be allowed to increase what they charge at the pumps. The recommendation could mean a hike of 1.5 to two cents per litre.

Vancouver's gasoline prices highest in Canada

OTTAWA - The average price of gasoline has risen to its highest level in more than two months, according to data released Tuesday. A weekly survey put the average rate for regular gas at $1.043 a litre, up 1.4 cents from a week earlier. The most expensive market among the 60 measured was Vancouver, where the average price rose 1.1 cents to $1.19 a litre.
